Things to Do

Baltimore is home to many amazing cultural and historic sites around the city and many times it’s hard to figure out what to do. Fear not because the Flag House has a list of places to visit and help ease the stress of figuring out an educational and entertaining trip!


Within walking distance (<6 blocks)

The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture is located right next door to the Flag House at 830 E. Pratt Street. The Lewis is open Monday, Thursday to Saturday: 10am-5pm and Sunday: 12pm-5pm.

The Carroll Museums is right up the road form the Flag House at 800 E. Lombard Street. The Carroll Museums is open for guided tours from 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is also right up the road from the Flag House, located at 15 Lloyd Street. The JMM is currently closed to the public for capital updates, but will be reopening to the public in Fall 2024.

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is across President Street, located at 35 Market Place. Port Discovery, located in the historic Fish Market building, is open every day from 10am-5pm and 10am-7pm on Friday’s.

Baltimore’s National Aquarium is also nearby, located at 501 E. Pratt Street. The aquarium is open Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm, Friday 9am-9pm, Saturday 9am-9pm, and Sunday 9am-7pm. Entry is ticketed so we suggest getting them ASAP!

The Historic Ships is also a good stopping point with multiple locations around the harbor. Please check their website for hours.


Other sites in the City

The Edgar Allen Poe House and Museum is a 15 minute drive from the Flag House, located at 203 N. Amity Street. Tickets are required for entry. Open every Thursday through Sunday, 11am – 4pm.

The Maryland Center for History and Culture (formerly the Maryland Historical Society) is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday through Sunday. Located at 610 Park Avenue, the center is open to group and individual visitations.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine located just across the harbor. The park is open from 9am-4:45pm every day. Please check their website for any updates.

There is also the Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum located at 1320 Eutaw Place and is an offsite unit of Morgan State University. The museum is open on Wednesdays: 11:00am-3:00pm, Fridays: 11:00am-3:00pm, and Saturdays: 11:00am-3:00pm.

Baltimore is also home to the National Historic Landmark B&O Railroad Museum. The B&O is located at 901 West Pratt St. and is open from Monday-Sunday 10am-4pm.

For the art enthusiasts, check out the Walters Art Museum located at 600 N. Charles Street. The Walters is open Wednesday–Sunday: 10am–5pm and Thursday: 1–8pm.
